MGSG offers experienced EHS attorneys, professionals, and technicians who are superior legal and technical EHS compliance counselors, managers, and EHS multi-media auditors. They develop, implement and oversee EHS management systems, participate in environmentally sensitive transactions and due diligence, defend administrative enforcement actions, support permitting and licensing activities, draft high-quality EHS compliance plans, train plant and management personnel in compliance and auditing skills, and represent clients in Superfund and remediation projects. MGSG's EHS personnel are:

Technically Skilled
MGSG lawyers possess engineering degrees or Master of Science Degrees in environmental engineering, environmental or safety science, and are trained and/or certified in EHS management systems. Similarly, MGSG's technical professionals possess Master Degrees, professional engineer's licenses, are certified EHS auditors, EHS management system professionals, and EHS trainers, and possess several other professional certifications.

Experienced
MGSG's EHS team represents both large and small corporations including General Motors, Procter & Gamble, Duke Energy Corp., Molex Corporation, Abbott Labs, Hospira, McNeil Pharmaceutical, and Kay Automotive among many others. Most MGSG personnel have over ten years of practical experience in the EHS fields. In keeping with MGSG's service philosophy, MGSG never assigns a novice to a client's project.

Connected
MGSG constantly cultivates close affiliations with select individuals and an international network of other firms with whom it can partner when necessary to assemble specialized skills, enhance team support, and establish relationships that may be necessary to efficiently accomplish its client's business objectives.

MGSG's EHS team offers many professional, technical, and legal skills, and strong minds and hard-working individuals that will task-organize and closely integrate with the client and its legal and technical personnel to accomplish the client's objectives. With MGSG, the client gains highly skilled and experienced EHS attorneys and technical professionals at rates that are competitive with traditional consulting firms. These dedicated individuals can free the client's personnel from the details of implementing and managing individual projects that may interfere with their ability to focus upon more global business and legal concerns.

Some specific EHS services that MGSG offers include:

  • Multimedia Environmental Health & Safety Auditing
MGSG performs environmental health & safety audits as one of its premier services. Its attorneys and professionals are uniquely educated and experienced to provide the highest quality audits at reasonable costs.

MGSG performs comprehensive EHS multi-media audits, environmental audits, health and safety audits, single media focused audits, and DOT audits. These are performed in conformance with our Audit Principles. MGSG has audited hundreds of industrial facilities including those in the following industries: automotive, chemical, pharmaceutical, utility, food, beverage, paper, waste recycling, waste disposal, contract management manufacturing, transportation facilities, and consumer products businesses.

  • International Multimedia Environmental Health & Safety Auditing
In addition to its national auditing practice, MGSG also audits international EHS programs against international requirements and company policies. Typically, MGSG forms strategic alliances with an in-country resource to ensure that language barriers are not an impediment to a thorough and comprehensive review. MGSG has audited throughout Central and South America, Mexico, Canada, and Asia.

  • EHS Management Systems
MGSG designs, implements, oversees, and evaluates EHS management systems. Effective compliance management can only be sustained long-term through well-designed, thoroughly implemented and company-supported EHS management systems. These systems require regular monitoring, oversight, corrective action at the root cause level, and compliance verification processes. These systems may be formal, recognized systems such as ISO 14000 or 18000, U.S. EPA or OSHA compliance recognition programs, industry programs such as Responsible Care, or customized company-specific programs including elements such as sustainability. MGSG has supported EHS management system design, implementation, oversight, and analysis of all kinds and at all levels - from creating new programs, to performing "gap" analyses of existing systems and recommending improvements, to enhancing excellence by linking and extending systems to support corporate strategic goals. Unique examples have included a cross-functional TSCA compliance system involving employees from R&D, sales, quality, regulatory/toxicology, legal, senior management, customer service/export, manufacturing, engineering). It involved designing and implementing paper and computer tools for managing TCSA-related activities; and a new team process for reporting and resolving allegations (which eliminated the potential for individual personal liability of senior managers and technical experts).

  • EHS Compliance Counseling, Regulatory Advice, and Training
MGSG provides common sense solutions for complex, unique, emerging, and traditional EHS compliance concerns. We identify inconsistencies, draft EHS Plans, offer day-to-day on-site EHS compliance management, address specific EHS compliance concerns, oversee particular EHS programs, provide permitting assistance, workplace hazard assessments, injury and illness recordkeeping reviews, and many other EHS compliance services. Specific regulatory expertise includes Clean Air Act Title V, NESHAPs, MACT, BACT, RACT; Clean Water Act NPDES direct and indirect discharger requirements, SWPPP, and SPCC; SARA Tier 1, 2, and TRI reporting; TSCA IUR, export and import notifications, 8(c) and 8(e), PMNs, SIDS dossier development, and other international chemical regulations; RCRA, and other topics listed in the Environmental or Health & Safety Expertise Subject-Matter Outlines on pages 5 and 6.

MGSG's clients normally manage their own EHS programs. However, in today's environment, personnel resources often are at a premium. Consequently, many clients find themselves in need of temporary personnel, regular compliance oversight, and training resources. MGSG supports these needs through hands-on EHS compliance management, program oversight and evaluation, EHS compliance training programs, EHS auditor skills and risk-recognition training programs, and by providing custom-designed compliance management tools, checklists, and programs.

  • Compliance Enforcement Matters
MGSG has represented clients in a variety of alleged EHS violations. MGSG defends clients who have received notices of violation, citations, and/or consent orders from federal, state or local regulatory agencies. MGSG is uniquely positioned to understand the agency's complaint and the legal arguments pertaining to it.

  • Commercial Transactions and Due Diligence
MGSG provides legal and technical environmental guidance to clients considering complex commercial transactions including corporate mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. MGSG reviews the proposed transaction and provides insight about the contract language and about the physical properties themselves. As a result, MGSG provides turn-key services to guide the client through the transaction.

  • Fee Arrangements
MGSG offers its clients experienced EHS attorneys and professionals at rates that are competitive with traditional consulting firms. MGSG is flexible in designing its fee arrangements with any client. As in our audit work, MGSG is willing to work on a project-by-project basis at a not-to-exceed price, fixed price, at standard hourly rates, blended hourly rates, or on a contingent fee/blended contingent fee-hourly rate basis. The fee structure will be established according to the nature and volume of the work, the skill level of the attorneys or technical professionals necessary, and the client's needs. MGSG is flexible, open to novel approaches, and is willing to work with the client to establish an agreeable arrangement. Contact us to request a proposal.
